The Tooth Fairy Strikes Again

Good morning all and happy Friday!
Just a quick note to let you know that the tooth fairy has struck again.
Oh how our little James' LOVES the tooth fairy!
When I picked him up from school yesterday afternoon,
this was grinning at me so proudly.

And this is a view of him this morning.
Don't cha love how his hair and his money are spread out like peacocks?!

Sometimes he drives me c-r-a-z-y but boy do I love that kid!
Remember this post??
Have a great day... it's almost the weekend!!!

Old Phone Repurposed

Good morning all!
You know I've been beside myself over the phone drama.
So, just to prove that I won't be undone over this,
I wanted to share my brilliant Mommy idea with you.

What's this you ask?
A child playing with an old phone??

No my friends, that's a child texting me his spelling words.
Oh yes, Mommy genius at it's finest!

Now James gladly practices his spelling words.
The way I know what he's typing?
He has to call out the letter as he texts it. :)
In his 6 year old world he's a big dog now and homework just got a lot easier!

Hhhmmm, wonder how I could use that phone to help him clean his room??

God's blessings on your day, Sarah :D

Leprechaun Pie??

Hi all and happy Monday!
Today was especially productive for me...
cleaning bathrooms,
monthly business taxes,
scheduling classes at the hospital,
running errands...
yes, ADD at it's finest. ;>
Oh how I love checking off my to do list!
But, the best part of the day was eating dinner with Nanny & Op.
Nanny made a new recipe of Hamburger casserole, black eyed peas, macaroni & cheese, turnip greens and cornbread.
Mmmhhhh! :)

As I was poking around before dinner (which is a given) I spied a pie dish covered with aluminum foil.
I lifted the corner of the foil revealing a delicious looking pie and asked
"Who's this pecan pie for?"
Nanny explained that we were having it for desert, along with vanilla ice cream.
About that time James came busting into the kitchen yelling
"I wanna see,
I wanna see the Leprechaun Pie!!!"

I love the world according to James.
God's blessings on your week! Sarah :D

Football and Five Dolla In Ya Pocket

Hi friends!
I can't believe it's already Wednesday.
This week has been so crazy busy!

Football practice has cranked up for Joseph.
He starts full pad practices tomorrow.
I'm dosing him with bananas, almonds and lots of water...
icing down sore muscles...
and some Ibuprofen for his achy body!
Honestly, did we sign up for this?! ;>

James is really into working odd jobs,
for pay of course!
That child would rather make money than play with his friends.
This is a conversation he recently had with Andy...
"Daddy sometimes ya know, ya just don't feel like workin',
BUT, you just gotta MAN UP and do it anyway.
Because when you get home,
it feels good to kick back with a five dolla in your hand."
Yeah, I'd say he'll have lots to tell Dr.Phil and Oprah about!

Before I run, here's a quick pic of how I found James only moments ago...

He was hiding in a box in my office,
mad because it was time for chores...
you know, working for FREE!!!

I hope your all having a great week as you prepare for back to school mania!
God's blessings, Sarah :D

Manly James

After James took his bath tonight he told me he needed to use my mirror. When I looked over to see what he was doing, I knew I needed to grab my camera. This is what I caught him in the bathroom doing...

Oh how cute he was as he twisted and turned. He was making all the faces that Andy makes when he shaves. Sweet baby boy practicing to be a man! :D

Hey Now, You're An All-Star!

As most of you know, James was picked to play All-Stars.
When he asked my friend, Jennifer, why she thought he was picked, she replied "Because you're the BEST catcher in the world!"
And that my friends was all little James needed to hear.
He is now fulfilling his calling.
His team practiced Monday and Tuesday night from 6pm-8:30ish.
Back to back nights of working his t-a-i-l off and l-o-v-i-n-g every minute of it!
The last practice is Saturday.
Games are next week and then we'll retire our jersey for the summer.
Here's James showing off his new jersey.
It even has his name on it, imagine the glory! :D

James '09 Field Day

Hi everyone, happy Friday!!!!
Whew, the past couple of days have been jam packed.
Of course as I post this there is still plenty of partying left to do.
So, instead of posting Joseph's birthday in pieces I'm going to wait.
I promise a full spread and I'll be prompt Gigi.
Gotta love those eager readers! ;>

Today I spent the morning at school with James.
You know it's that time of year, good old field day.
I'm not really a big fan in all honesty.
But I gotta tell ya, the group at CCPS has it going on.
This was definitely the BEST field day I've ever participated in!

Their PE teacher, Coach Bates, put together a fan-ta-bu-lous presentation...
a hula hoop routine set to music!!!
Just think about the time and energy put into this.
Three entire minutes of kids moving in coordination with each other and the music-
BRILLIANT!!!
It made looking for a parking slot for 10 minutes, followed by a 5 minute trek from said slot TOTALLY worth it!

I'm including a few pics and a video clip so you can share in the fun!

Here's James ready to go.
Notice his hula hoop is blue.
Hmm, wonder how that happened?!

This is James' completely showing off.
Look at him hula hooping with his arms crossed.
This boy's got mad skillz! :D

James' won 3rd place in the sack race.
I think his athletic talent must be from his Daddy!

Sick Baby James

It seems, this sweet boy has a virus.
The kind that causes him to go from non-stop chatter,
to in the floor splatter!
Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
Poor guy has been puking all day. :(
When he wanted an explanation of how he got sick, I gave it my best shot.
I explained that he had contracted a virus.
That his little body would begin to fight off the virus by making...
"Oh, Oh, Oh, I know" James said,
"My body's gonna starting making WHITE BLOOD VEINS!!!"
Yep James, that right, WHITE BLOOD VEINS to the rescue! ;>

Day In The Park

In our little town the first weekend in May is Day In The Park.
All of the city ball teams play in a tournament.
Of course there are also kiddie games, face painting, craft tents, etc.

Our game was on Friday night.
It rained all day so the ground was good and ready for those white pants!

James played catcher for the first time and LOVED it!
I would classify him as a gentleman catcher.
Anytime a runner was coming home James moved the tee for them.
Gotta love a catcher that thinks ahead!

James also had several hits.
He isn't always great with the pitch but he can knock it off the tee!
He scored a couple of runs and brought in numerous runners.
Good game, James!

We lost the game 12-11.
We're not sad though,
the loser got their medals after the game...
and they got to sleep late!
The winner had to be back at the ballpark at 8:30 this morning.
I think our team was the real winner! :D

Thanks Nana, Boompa & Gigi for coming to the game.
It's always nice to have your own cheering section!

We celebrated with a delicious dinner out.
It gave us the perfect opportunity to discuss good sportsman-ship.
The opposing coach was a gold star example.
He took it upon himself to argue with the umpires.
The sad part is that the umpires listened and changed their rulings!
James summed up the way we all felt about the situation when he said,
"That coach really made me P-E-S-T OFF!"
When we discouraged his language he said,
"Oh I know I shouldn't say it Mama, that's why I spelled it." ;>

Just Say NO!

In a morning conversation...

James: head down asleep at the table
Mama: James, wake up and eat your breakfast baby.
James: I don't WANNA go to school today.
Mama: But James, today's your field trip to the High School.
James: no response
Mama: in my most optimistic voice, You get to see the drama club perform a play today!!!
James: looking me right in the eye, Can't we JUST SAY NO?!!
Mama: Umh, no! :D
Joseph: who was solemnly eating his breakfast, now perks up and smiles.

Gotta love breakfast with the Hinsons. ;>

Have a great day everyone and remember,
when life pushes you too far...
Just Say NO!!!

The Tooth Fairy Can Retrieve LOST Teeth!

And so it goes...
The last 12 hrs here At Home With The Hinsons has been a bit wild. James had his first game, with most of the family there to cheer him on. But, NOTHING can compare to loosing your 1st tooth! I do believe he told every stranger he met about this life altering event.
Our game was late, so two weary parents prepped James for bed. He had his dinner, bath and jammy tales. Now all he needed was a kiss goodnight. Until he got a GREAT IDEA... James decided to brush that tooth just one last time. He wouldn't want to give the tooth fairy a dirty tooth. Yep, that's right as Andy hollered NO!!!!!!!!!! James dropped that sweet 1st tooth down the drain, never to be seen again! Oh we tried. Andy took apart the pipes. Joseph concocted a tooth retrieving device. No luck. All while James sobbed uncontrollably.
That's when he got his second GREATEST IDEA... he would simply get his lunch box, bite the strap, loosen a second tooth, pull it, and place that tooth under the pillow. Yes, our night was quickly going downhill! That was when I slowed the room from spinning long enough to intervene. I had James write a letter to the tooth fairy explaining what happened. He left the note under his pillow. We talked about the importance of listening to your parents. And a very exhausted James went to sleep hugging the tooth fairy pillow (empty tooth pocket and all).
This morning James woke up to find that the tooth fairy is a very understanding gal. She read his note and left his money in the pillow. She must have checked his mouth because he had fairy dust on his face! As one very happy little boy went to the sink to brush his teeth he found more fairy dust. That's right, the tooth fairy is so fabulous, she must have retrieved it from the sink. You know she lives in a house made from all the teeth she collects. And no fairy house would be complete without the 1st tooth of James Hinson!

Alert the Presses... James Lost His First Tooth!!!

We here At Home With the Hinsons have an announcement...
James' lost his first tooth!!!
He is beside himself with excitement.
To quote him "I am so happy I'm dancing like an egyptian!"
Here's the story...
James came home from school with a loose tooth. Apparently he was chewing on his lunch box strap and jerked it. He was drooling over the tooth fairy visiting him tonight. I explained that it usually took several days of wiggling a tooth before it was loose enough to pull. Fast forward an hour and James runs out from his bedroom announcing that he lost his tooth! Leave it to James to take things into his own hands!

From The Mouth of James

Earlier tonight James was crawling around on the floor. This was the conversation that took place...
Mama: "James, what are you doing?"
James: "I'm just having fun."
Mama: "Well stop! Get up off the floor."
James: "But Mama I'm just a kid. And kids just run around & have fun."
Mama: "What?"
James: "Yeah don't you remember? You use to be a kid and you had fun too, before you went to Mom School. It's ok, I know, they teach you not to have fun once your a mom"!!!!
