James' BUG Award

Tuesday morning started out like most... sleepy boys eating breakfast. As James ate his grits he complained that he really didn't want to go to school. I tried to convince him that Joseph had school too - more groaning. Then I moved on to how it wouldn't be too long before another weekend would be here - even that didn't work. Then I realized, *ding-ding-ding*, this was a  teachable moment! "You know James, God uses us to share His love & everyday we learn more about Him and this world He created. If you stayed home all day, how would you shine for Jesus? I really think God has work for you at school, and I can't wait for you to share it with me this afternoon." At this point he gave me "the look", left the table and went to get dressed. I finished packing lunches as I thought how I too have daily lessons to learn & love to share. We went on throughout our morning without any complaining. I had really forgotten about the conversation when I picked James up from school. As he walked to the car I could tell he had something very exciting to share with me. That's when I saw it, the red circle glowing from the middle of his shirt. James had received the BUG award! For those of you unfamiliar with such an award, it stands for Being Unusually Good. Needless to say James started talking as soon as he got in the car & hasn't stopped since. You see as he was doing his daily work, he wrote about Mrs. Culpepper, the school principle. He wrote that she would sometimes reward exceptional students with the BUG award. Which led him right into the principle's office... to read his letter, allow her to keep a copy, & last but not least, be presented with his award. As we spent the evening talking about such an exciting day I reminded him that if he had stayed home this morning he would have missed out on a wonderful day. He agreed, God really did have work & rewards in store for him! What a fabulous life lesson for such a little boy!!!

A "Tail" Only From The Hinsons...

In a morning conversation:
JWH "Mama, did you know that James really is Daddy's son?"
Mama "Umh, yes son, but why do you say that?"
JWH "Well last night he looked at our pile of clothes in the floor and said..."
JAH "What the heck are all these clothes..."
JWH "JAMES DON'T SAY THAT!!!!"
JAH "Oh, why - is it gettin' up your tail hole?"!!!!

Nanny's Chicken Fingers

So, you live in the south and you haven't seen your family in quite sometime. You call them and say "I'm cooking dinner Sunday, can you be here at 5pm?" Their reply... "what ya cookin'?" "Umh, probably some chicken fingers, peas, slaw, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, biscuit & gravy."  Then comes the answer, "YES MAM, WE'LL SEE YOU AT 5pm!!!" And so that is how tonight's dinner started. Nanny wanted to see the grandkids & we were hungry (I mean happy) to attend! :D

The New Baby Cousin

Recently our family was blessed with a new addition... her name is Claire Elizabeth. Claire-Bear as we call her, is the second daughter born to my sister. That's right, now the Hinson's have two nieces/cousins to spoil! Although Joseph experienced love at first sight with Addison Marie, James was a little slow to warm. Not so this time! James LOVES Claire, his "precious little baby cousin" as he calls her. You see our boys are six years apart in age. So on James 6th b'day he just knew he was getting a brother or sister. When I finally convinced him he wasn't he said "That's ok, Santa can bring me a baby for Christmas"! Uh, NO!!! After weeks of trying to "gently" explain it to him and weeks of replies like, "Mom you never know, sometimes surprises happen" I finally had to have the sit down talk. It went like this... James several years ago Mommy had to have surgery. You know how you have an organ called your lungs that breathe oxygen into your body. Well, Mommy's have an organ where babies grow. Your Mommy had to have her "baby organ" removed, so there won't be any "surprises". Needless to say James didn't like my reply. As we talked about it I reminded him that Aunt Rachel would be having a new baby soon. We discussed how new baby Claire could never have a big brother just like he would never have a baby sister. I told him that I thought GOD put the two of them together for just that reason. He lit up at the thoughts of God sending him a special gift. I really think that's why he loves her like he does. Isn't it neat how God finds a way to send us our hearts desires, even when it seams impossible?! So, precious little baby Claire, you will always have a special place in the hearts of the Hinsons. Welcome to the family!! ;>

The Boy's Have an Extra Day Home!

Today the boys were out of school for MLK day. We all love an extra day to sleep late, HOORAY! We started our morning with Chocolate Chip Waffles and bacon. Then of course we had to straighten up the house a bit. After lunch we all played the Wii. Mama totally kicked tail in bowling although Joseph & James spanked me in tennis. Once our Wii tournament was over the boys were ready to play outside. SURPRISE, it was snowing!!!! Not that a little snow was going to keep those Hinson boys inside. They bundled up and armed with some warm hot chocolate played the rest of the afternoon! ;>

Home With The Hinsons

Welcome to our home...
The Hinson's home is simple yet satisfying, inviting but not smothering
and most importantly filled with laughter, love and the Holy Spirit.
Like most families we have a Mom & Dad, two children (boys ages 6 & 12) and one dog & cat.
We spend most of our free time together here at home.
Our family loves movies, games and good clean fun.
Please enjoy your glimpse into the home of the Hinsons. ;>
