Not Me Monday... AGAIN??!

Hi everyone and happy Not Me Monday.
The day where anything that can go wrong does and more importantly, without warning!

So today started unlike most others...
a few minor bumps in our morning routine, but nothing major.
The kids made it to school and I made it to work on time.

As I began to sort out my day and prioritize my to do list my cell phone rang.
Hmm, I didn't recognize the number so I thought I'd better answer it.
A very nice but concerned mom on the other end of the line asked if I was the homeroom mother for James' class??
"Yes, I am" I said. Thinking to myself, there's ONLY 9 days of school left, haven't I relinquished that title?!
"Did you realize that this week is teacher appreciation week?" the other end of the phone questioned.
"OOOhhhh, it seems like I remember hearing something about that" I replied.
"Well all the other classes took flowers to their teacher this morning and Mrs. C was the ONLY teacher whose class didn't do anything for her!" said my new friend.

Yes, that's right, I'm not a homeroom mother, I'm a LOSER!!!
Thankfully, my new friend was more than willing to take on the responsibility of coordinating the remainder of the week's events.
She was even nice enough to ask for my input AND act like she cared.

Here's my story and I'm sticking to it...
There was a homeroom mother meeting several weeks ago.
James had been sick and he had a doctor's appointment that afternoon.
So, I emailed the queen-bee homeroom mother explaining my absence.
I asked her to email me any important notes that I missed.
When I didn't hear from her, I assumed I was off the hook for the rest of the year... HOORAY!
Because in all honesty I'm not cut out for this. But, that's another story altogether. ;>

Moral of the story?
If it's Monday,
the phone rings,
and the person on the other end of the line asks you if you're the homeroom mother.
The best possible reply is,
"NO, NOT ME!!!!".
:D

Oh my!! I am homeschooling this year, but next year they will be in public school. I will try to avoid being homeroom mom, but with 5 kids (3 that will be in school next year), I am sure to get tagged. Even though I am not a homeroom mom, when my first son was going to pre-K at a local school, I totally missed out on all the gifts. Poor Gabe was always the one that brought it a day late. I think I will need to keep a very detailed calendar this next year.... even though I don't work outside the home I will have two others still home during the day. I wonder if I could just plead insanity now and not worry about it.... ;)

Kelly B------Don't EVER be a homeroom mom!!!! Claim anything from allergies to sudden inappropriate outbursts to get out of this mission from hades. Don't let the smell of new books, new clothes, and chalk dust pull you into a tar baby that will do nothing, but bring grief to you, your family and all the people you love. Starting next year, I have been given carte blanche to do whatever it takes to quell that mommy need to say yes to any questions of can you volunteer at the beginning of the school year. I can promise that if Queen Sarah says yes to any homeroom duties next year, I will have her committed and will run an ad in the paper saying I am not responsible for anything my wife says, does, or commits to!!

Ok now, that sounds a little extreme... but in all honesty, it really is that bad! The problem is that this "homeroom mother" gig starts quite innocent. You want to be involved in your child's education and you love to help out. Next thing you know your doing baskets, parties, gifts, festivals, meetings, and all of this is with little support from fellow parents. READ: On your dime. So, I've decided to spend the rest of my school carrier in the cheep seats. That's right, you'll find me seated on the loser mom bench. The only difference is that when asked, I'll send in my money and help with parties. All the while enjoying myself, my children and most importantly the moment! :)
